Is Crash Team Racing Nitro Fueled hinting towards the next Crash & Spyro games?
Well of course, it’ a theory concerning CTR:NF that ties into them.
You see ever since we learned that CTRNF was going to feature character skins. I couldn’t help but wonder if these were low-key hinting at the next Crash game as some sort of new game mechanic connected to each. Same for Spyro.
But after some leaks & rumors started popping up before The Game Awards 2019, weell that didn’t appear to be the case. As they mentioned that Cortex would be playable & that there would be other masks with special abilities.
Now I’m fully aware that these leakers had lost some credibility after the new Crash game was a complete no-show at The Game Awards back in December. Of course, the PS5 basically threw a wrench into the whole thing. So it’s kind of understandable how any of them could’ve be wrong.
Here’s the thing though, the parts where they mentioned masks I do believe to be true & here’s why. Something that pretty much the entire Crash fanbase is aware of is the new mystery mask that was seen following Coco in the PS Time To Play ad. Then in this months CTR GP, Rustland or MegaMix Mania, whichever you prefer to call it. Features a new mask by the name of Apo Apo, who’s basically the Titans version of both Aku Aku & Uka Uka combined into one.
So the next game will most certainly feature new masks going by these 2-examples.
Another factor is the vast number of returning characters from post Naughty Dog games.
Like Crunch from Wrath of Cortex or Nina Cortex from Twinsanity. But it’s also the entirely new characters like Hasty or King Chicken that were created for this game. We can pretty much assume that they’ll appear in the next game.
There’s also the possibility that the next game may feature slight character redeigns than the ones we seen in N-Sane or CTR:NF. Why do I believe this? Well it actually has to do with CTR’s latest racer, MegaMix!
As we know he consists of a fusion between Cortex, Tiny, Dingodile & N-Gin. But if you look at his arms, which are obviously Tiny’s. You can tell that there’s added Tiger stripes that are Not present on the usual Tiny model. Now this could just be a simple result of a mutation & nothing more.
But to also back up the idea of slight character redesigns happening, is this image of some leaked pieces of concept art by Toys For Bob from last year. You can kind of tell that characters like N-Tropy & Dingodile have slight redesigns.
On top of this, Nickolas Kole, the artist behind the Spyro Reignited Trilogy. Did some teasing with both this leak & the new mask in the Playstation Time to Play ad. Therefore implying that Toys For Bob is helping I’m assuming Vicarious Visions with the next Crash game & Not developing it themselves. As I’m sure their busy with the next Spyro game.
Which brings me to my next point, Spyro’s next game could very well have been teased in CTR as well. Reason I believe this is because of 2-skins in particular. The Dark Spyro skin & the Winter Guardian Spyro skin.
The Dark Spyro skin I’ve always been curious about, considering it’s been sort of a staple in the series since The Legend of Spyro Trilogy, same for Cynder. How Dark Spyro would even work in the Reignited universe, I wouldn’t know outside of being a boss.
Similar to what we seen in Skylanders Academy, but also in this piece of little known concept art for The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon. With Spyro taking on what appears to be Dark Spyro. If they managed to pull that off in the Reignited sequel, that would be a really cool thing to see.
Then there’s the Winter Guardian skin, which may or may Not be a reference to The Legend of Spyro Trilogy. But this ones really interesting, because out of all of Spyro’s appearances in the franchises history. Whether that be OG/Reignited, Legend or Skylanders, his overall design has been pretty much the same.
Therefore making Winter Guardian Spyro the 1st ever Spyro with major design changes to his his horns & tail, but Not his overall build. Okay, maybe except for Skylanders’ Mega-Ram Spyro. So I might’ve just threw out my own point.
I should also mention that according to a new CTR datamine, Spyro will be getting another Legendary skin for next months GP. Meaning Spyro will have 2-Legendary skins in total for Nitro Fueled. So Spyro getting more skins than Geary is definitely very odd considering we’re not even close to getting a new Spyro game reveal yet. But this could very well be a glimpse at some of the new ideas that Toys For Bob is incorporating into the next game.
I don’t know, there’s just so many questions being asked the more I look into all this. One things for sure is that both the new Crash & Spyro games are on the way. With the new Crash coming quite possibly this year & the new Spyro most likely next year.
