So we already knew at the start of the year Sega launched the Sonic 2020 campaign as the New Year began. Well, Sega Japan (via Sonic Channel) has confirmed that as of today, the Sonic 2020 initiative has begun!
Basically meaning that on the 20th of every month in 2020, we’ll be getting new Sonic related info & projects, be shown throughout the year. Possibly game reveals, IDW sneak peeks, a new TV show, who knows what it can be!
For January the announcement is of the initiative itself. With a special page over on the Sonic Channel site, with 21-different Twitter icons, banners & wallpapers to choose from! All of which featuring key art for the Sonic 2020 project.
On top of this, there will be “A variety of related events are scheduled for 2020, so watch out for “Sonic the Hedgehog,” which is set to gain momentum ahead of its 30th anniversary in 2021.”
So their already trying to build up hype for the 30th anniversary with this project. Which is great! Provided the next game offers more than Forces did with the gameplay & overall length.
But there’s a bit of info in there about “a variety of events scheduled for 2020”. This right here could tie into the recent rumor, that a Sonic Adventure remake could be announced at a new Sonic music event later this year.
This isn’t outright, 100% confirmation of such a reveal or event happening. I’m just saying, it’s possible as everything seems to be lining up.
Either way, we’re getting new Sonic updates coming every single month and that alone has gotten me very excited…along with the movie. Speaking of the Movie we’re seemingly getting a special stage for it in Sonic Forces: Speed Battle. This announcement came yesterday from Sega Hardlight themselves. Yes, it looks like City Escape, but it’s Golden Bay Zone. Which also happens to resemble San Francisco.
So what do you guys think about this? What do you think we’ll see announced for Sonic throughout 2020? Be sure to let me know in the comments below!
