So about a month back I did an article on my E3 predictions & expectations. Well today’s article will be a follow-up to the Insomniac Games/ Ratchet & Clank part of that article. So without further ado, lets get started.
Insomniac Games posted the above video a few days ago on May 31st, titled “Reclaim Your World – June 7, 2018″. In the video Insomniac Games features various recent games including Ratchet & Clank PS4. However this teaser date is not for Ratchet & Clank, instead this date is for the announcement of a new VR game for Oculus. As everyone knows R&C is a Playstation IP, so therefore Insomniac isn’t allowed to use R&C for Oculus.
Now Insomniac Games will make this announcement three days before they show off Spider-Man PS4 at Sony’s E3 press conference. So what does this have to do with Ratchet & Clank, you may ask? Well I’m going to tell you.
The future of Ratchet & Clank is uncertain enough as it is, but with Insomniac’s new VR game and Spider-Man some of you might think that this is the end of R&C. At least that’s what some would say, but not me so I went and dug up some info and hints at another Ratchet & Clank game. The first hint is the most obvious and is included in R&C PS4, it’s the scene where the Plumber is helping Ratchet & Clank fix their ship. Once their ship is repaired, the Plumber leaves and as he leaves he says “See you in the next reboot” indicating that another game is in the works. Another hint was given in a livestream with Insomniac Games where they said that the next game would be a cross between A Crack in Time and the PS4 game. Also both Insomniac Games and Shawn McCabe said that their “Not done making Ratchet & Clank games”, while James Stevenson said that the PS4 game was the “first entry for PS4″. So even after Spider-Man and their new Oculus VR game release, I still think we might get a new Ratchet & Clank announcement, maybe at PSX 2018 in December or sometime next year.
Either way you look at it, the next game in the series could only go in one of two ways or both ways. The first way is to finish the cliffhanger from Into The Nexus and end the main series’ story. Or route number two would be to continue from where the PS4 game left off, but the only way I could see that happening is if Ratchet & Clank was to get a TV Series like Sly Cooper. I mean I would absolutely support the idea of a R&C TV series that continues from the film, it’d be the perfect way to really bring in everything the series has to offer.
Anyways just don’t be expecting another Ratchet & Clank announcement at E3 2018, unless they surprise us and announce a Ratchet & Clank TV show.
