It’s time for another news update, so lets jump right into this. This time I’ll be covering news and announcements starting from where I left off in late January.
First off is the increased amount of Sonic movie news that’s been getting announced left and right, since the announcement of the films release date. The release date is November 19th, 2019, so telling by the window they chose for release, that’s also the typical time of year for Sega to release Sonic games. Thus, increases the chances that there will be a new Sonic game for the movie. Now we also got the filming start time and location in Atlanta, Georgia in July, also we may be getting the composer for The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Deadpool as well as the upcoming Tomb Raider and 6th Terminator films, is doing the film’s score. Also in the same article that mentions that Blur Studios is animating the film, but I thought Marza Animation was, unless their working together to somehow combine their animations, after all both studios have CG Sonic experience. We also learned that Sony never green-lit the Sonic film (which explains the delay), but they’ll green-light terrible movies like The Emoji Movie. Anyways, we’ll find out more about the film at the Official Sonic The Hedgehog Panel at SXSW 2018 on March 16th and quite possibly at E3 2018. Now Sonic was just featured in two new TV spots for Ready Player One, one of which is available, while the other hasn’t released yet and it has more focus on Sonic running, rolling and boosting. Ready Player One already has lots of references to popular culture, like Overwatch, Iron Giant, Jurassic Park, King Kong and more, here is the tv spot.
In other Sonic news, Cream the Rabbit has been added to Sonic Forces Speed Battle as a playable character. Also there have been lots of talk about a Sonic only kart racing game set to be announced at SXSW, however this has yet to be confirmed, but the evidence is adding up. While another Sonic game announcement is happening at a Japanese event next month. All there is right now is speculation at what these game announcements are, we’ll just have to wait ’till next week to find out. My guess’ are just as good as everyone else’s, but I think what we’ll get or find out at SXSW will be a new game announcement, Sonic movie info, Sonic Boom season 3, IDW Sonic comics and maybe updates on Sonic in Ready Player One and Wreck-it Ralph 2. Okay, they probably won’t say anything about the last two. Also, Sonic Boom reruns are now back on Boomerang, between 1:00 Pm -1:30 PM, now whether this has anything to do with SXSW I don’t know. However I do know that the Official Sonic stream on Youtube will be streaming tomorrow, according to a recent Tweet by Aaron Webber.
It’s been a little over a month since the new Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom trailer aired during the Super Bowl and like the first trailer it got millions of views within hours. Thanks to the trailer and the leaked Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom Lego sets and toy line, we got our first look at the rumored Indoraptor, which looks even better than the Indominus. Also, there is some new Jurassic Park 25th Anniversary merchandise, like calendars, ultimate Jurassic Park film collection in 4K and even Lego sets based on the first Jurassic Park. The next film in the series, Jurassic World 3, is scheduled to release in 2021, now this is a little odd mostly because they don’t usually have a release date for the next Jurassic before the current one releases. One other note, is that in addition to Jurassic World Evolution and Jurassic World Pinball, there is another game releasing on mobile phones called Jurassic World Alive, which plays similar to Pokemon Go, which to me sounds like it would get old really fast.
So far, no news updates on the Sly Cooper TV Show, except for a new blog post by PGS Entertainment, which was an interview with Dev Maden, one of the creators of Sly Cooper, about working on the show. On another note, Sly Cooper game composer Peter McConnell is one of the speakers at GDC 2018, now if an update about the show is announced there, I don’t know, if anything we might only find out that McConnell might return for the show and Sly 5.
Now for the past week or so, there has been a lot of talk about Activision giving the original Spyro the Dragon trilogy the Crash Bandicoot N-sane Trilogy treatment. What started out as a rumor that an announcement would be made this month for the trilogy remake and then be released by the end of this year, which is around or before Spyro’s 20th anniversary. Then, Activision said there are going to be more remasters of their IP library releasing later this year. Also the whole Spyro Twitter account getting claimed and protected by Activision. Let’s not forget the Spyro demo code used on Crash 3 in the N-sane trilogy turning the words purple, a Twitter user I believe his name was BetaM, data mined the N-Sane Trilogy and his results turned up a Spyro Demo code was in the games files. For more in-depth info on this I recommend checking out VTNVIVI’s Youtube channel.
Wreck-it Ralph 2 has just got it’s first trailer and by the looks of it so far no signs of Sonic appearing. Now Sega’s presence is still in the sequel just like Ready Player One, but the film seems it’s mostly going to be internet focused and less game focused. However gaming could still be a big part of the film, telling by the best part of the trailer gaming could still be relevant. In interviews from a year or two ago, they said that this film will have everything everyone liked about the first one and lots more. Also we could see more Sonic in it, because after the first film released the director of the first Wreck-it Ralph was part of an interview with the head of Sonic Team, saying that he was disappointed about how much time the Sonic series got in the first film. So that could open up the possibilities of Sonic’s and even Eggman’s roles being a little bigger in the sequel.
Just when I thought the Dreamworks Dragons TV series was done, now it seems to be getting renewed for another series possibly taking place between HTTYD 2 and 3. Now this is not officially confirmed, however with all the hints and rumors going around I believe the possibility is there. Also Universal Pictures is attending Cinemacon 2018 and is expected to show footage for it’s upcoming films. The first one from Dreamworks after merging with Universal is How To Train Your Dragon 3, the final chapter in the film trilogy and franchise as a whole, which a clip is supposed to be shown there and then released on YouTube shortly after. Universal Pictures part of Cinemacon 2018 starts on Wednesday April 25th from 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM (doors open at 9:30 AM), in Las Vegas.
Anyways, this has been another news roundup, so be sure to follow or comment. My YouTube Channel progress is going a little slower than I thought (I set up a new replacement channel, Blueknight V2.0). So as usual, check back soon for updates for more Sonic and media news, and if anything develops at SXSW I will report on it here as quickly as I can.
