We are now nearly one month (23 days) away from E3 2017, the biggest gaming event of the year. This years E3 seems to be bigger and better this year especially for Sega, after last years E3 only focusing on Sonic Boom Fire and Ice. Now I’m not entirely sure on what games are already announced other than the few I know of and which unannounced games or franchises could appear.
Sega’s Sonic Forces and Sonic Mania will both be at E3. The third playable character in Sonic Forces was originally going to be announced at E3, however Sega announced the character a month early. The third playable character is the custom hero, a character that the player can customize to their liking (silmilar to Skylanders Imaginators). Custom Heroes also come equipped with a grappling hook (similar to the swingshot from Ratchet & Clank) and wispons which are gadgets or weapons that harness the hyper-go-on powers of the Wisps from previous games, while also retaining the traditional Wisp abilities. Then there’s Sonic Mania which got delayed to summer 2017, also will be at E3 2017.And finally the matter of the Sonic The Hedgehog 2018 movie which I believe will get a trailer at E3 2017 because for three reasons; 1. E3 2017 is the biggest event in gaming of the year and we have seen trailers for previous video game media outside of games (Ratchet & Clank movie and Sonic Boom TV series at E3 2014) 2. June is the 26th anniversary of the series, so announcing the release date with a trailer would be a last minute surprise and is probably why Sega announced the custom hero in Sonic Forces a month early and 3. Recently Sony and Universal released promo art for their upcoming projects for 2017-2018 among those are Jurassic World 2, Goosebumps 2, Jumanji, Grinch and others, however not among those is Sonic The Hedgehog which is supposed to be released in 2018 by Sony, so we could see an announcement from both the Sega and/or the Sony exhibitors.
Now down to Sony’s Press conference which starts on June 12th at 1:00 PM, where some of the biggest announcements are expected this year especially now that Sony and Activision are working together. As we all know the Crash Bandicoot N-Sane Trilogy releases on June 30th as a PS4 exclusive and will no doubt be at E3 this year. Now it’s highly possible that Sony will announce something along the lines of Sly Cooper this year, whether it’s a trailer or news on the Sly Cooper movie, Sly 5 or a remake of the first game (Sly Cooper and the thievius raccoonus) which is also the game for the movie. Also what were expecting from Sony is their announcement on a new Jak & Daxter title, which the PS4 rereleases might be a hint at a possible future title might be released. There are now rumors that a Spyro The Dragon PS4 trilogy is in the works, due to a picture posted by Playstation Netherlands which shows several Playstation IP’s that are on or coming to PS4, but the one that stands out is Spyro The Dragon. Spyro The Dragon with The Legend of Spyro design, is the only character in the picture that has not had a game released or an announced game on PS4. Now hints like this is what Playstation twitter accounts (and a Crash Bandicoot appearance in Uncharted 4) from around the world did with Crash Bandicoot using both the original and titans designs, before announcing Crash in Skylanders and the Crash N-Sane Trilogy. Spider-Man PS4 is still scheduled for release in 2017, Insomniac Games and Sucker Punch Productions have yet to announce any future projects along the lines of Sly Cooper or Ratchet & Clank.
Microsoft still has the Xbox One Scorpio up it’s sleeve, which is claimed to be the most powerful game console available and will eliminate the need for console generations and has been said that newer games could stick around a lot longer than normal.
Nintendo is going for the Switch this time around with games like Super Mario Odyssey, Splatton 2 and Arms.
Other game companies will be attending but I cannot cover them all otherwise this article would probably be twenty paragraphs long. I also suggest going to Youtube Channel VTNVIVI and Wikipedia for more information.
