Ratchet and Clank: The Past, Present and Future of A Playstation Legend

When it comes to futuristic intergalactic adventures, powerfully crazy weapons, unique gadgets and memorable characters Ratchet and Clank is the game series to come to mind. Ratchet and Clank started on PS2 back in 2002 and instantly became the Playstation Exclusive icon we all know today, alongside Sly Cooper and Jak and Daxter. With each new installment brought newer, bigger, upgradable weapons and health system, New planets, characters, villains, gameplay styles and so much more. Almost every Ratchet and Clank game title to be released by Insomniac Games made it onto Playstation’s Greatest Hits range. The games that sold the most copies were Ratchet and Clank 3: Up Your Arsenal (PS2), Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack In Time (PS3), and Ratchet and Clank (PS4/2016) however no sales numbers were released yet, but they have said the sales for the PS4 remake were the highest since the PS2 era.                                                                                                                                                                                                                           ratchet & clank PS4The Ratchet & Clank games were so popular that (in addition to the PS4 remake) Rainmaker Entertainment created the series’ first ever theatrical film. However the film didn’t earn back its budget, but Insomniac Games did say that all the Ratchet & Clank fans who came to support the movie and give positive reviews. The critics did not give the film a positive review which is probably why the film didn’t do so good and also the competition with Disney films like Jungle Book and Zootopia, the latter staying in theaters way too long, so from that standpoint the film was a success. Now the movie was pretty good in my opinion, some things could have been better like; Ratchet blasting more robots, the inclusion of more weapons and gadgets, a robotic Dr. Nefarious rather than a non-robotic version of the character and the inclusion of Dr. Nefarious’ robotic butler Lawrence (who occasionally messes up and makes Nefarious mad and malfunctions, that right there is where most of the games humor comes from is those two characters). A lot of people say the game, based on the movie, based on the game is better than the movie and yes this is true, but the movie is not terrible like people say it’s actually pretty good, way better than The Angry Birds Movie.

The future of the series is still unknown, because Insomniac Games said they are still busy with other projects like Spider-Man PS4. As to the movies possible sequal, which probably won’t happen anytime soon because Rainmaker Entertainment (makers of the Ratchet & Clank Movie) is currently working on the Sly Cooper Movie (which is still in development with concept and script as of January 2017). And after the release of Sly Cooper, which won’t release until after 2017, they plan on making the Jak & Daxter Movie (which is also in development).
