Sonic Forces new details, E3, Third character and Sonic Runners sequal

(Note: This post was started on April 8th, but was delayed, updated and posted on April 13th.) There’s been several pieces of new Sonic News from the past week including a Sonic Runners Sequal, plus more details and gameplay for both Sonic Forces and Sonic Mania. Links will be posted at the bottom for more info on these Sonic Titles. Sonic Runners Adventure a new mobile Sonic game and sequal to Sonic Runners coming soon. The game was accidentally leaked by Gameloft and a FAQ page on Gameloft’s website was confirmation of the games existence, also detailing much of the gameplay. Sonic Runners Adventure only needs to be connected to the internet the first time it launches on a device, then can be played offline. Red Star Rings don’t appear to be a currency used to unlock characters or items, instead normal Gold Rings are used to purchase unlockables. Story and Timed Modes are still included as well as 3 new types of levels; Finite Levels, Looped Levels and Infinite Levels also included are bonus levels, which can only be accessed by collecting a bonus item and beating the stage. Story Mode progression works differently, now collecting stars after beating a stage and characters are not categorized by personality, but by one of 3 Teams; Heroes, Dark and Chaotix.

Sonic Forces just got a bunch of info released yesterday, starting first an article from the Japanese magazine Famitsu, which shows more screenshots and details. According to the article the third playable character will be revealed at E3 2017, Sonic Boom Sonic is not the third character (I was really hoping that this would be the first multi-platform Sonic Boom game) and an updated plot synopsis. Plot Synopsis: “Sonic Forces has the primary themes of “forces”, “power”, and “teamwork”. This time around, the unthinkable has happened: Sonic the Hedgehog has failed and Dr. Eggman has won. While Sonic was absent, Dr. Eggman has managed to conquer 99% of the world with his army, thanks to a new power. Now, multiple forces are embroiled in conflict for the control of the planet.

As the Eggman Empire’s armies lay waste to entire cities, Sonic joins up with the “Resistance” members opposing Eggman. Classic Sonic, Sonic’s past self, appears soon after, having been brought to the present by the same power Eggman used to conquer the world. Now, with the aid of his friends, a new ally, and Classic Sonic, Sonic embarks on a mission to save the world and end the evil reign of the diabolical doctor and his forces.” Silver The Hedgehog, Espio The Chameleon, Vector The Crocodile and Charmy Bee are now confirmed to return in Sonic Forces as well as Knuckles, Tails and Amy. The Director of Sonic: Lost World and the Wii version of Sonic: Colors is directing Sonic Forces. Sonic Forces has been in development since around the time of Sonic: Lost World’s release, the game will not be all dark and gloomy, and will feature some lighter stages. Then there was the Nintendo Direct on April 12th which had new trailers and gameplay for both Sonic Forces and Sonic Mania. Green Hill Zone (with a sandopolis twist) and Choppers return. The third new character was teased in the trailer, and will be an “unexpected character” that plays an important role in the story and “embodies the overall features of the game” (whatever that last part means). 2017, with the release of both Sonic Forces and Sonic Mania, is a continuation of Sonic’s 25th Anniversary.
