Sly Cooper Movie in development/ won’t release until after 2017

Popular Playstation franchise and the world’s greatest thief, Sly Cooper and his band of thieves are making their way to theaters in their first ever animated movie from Rainmaker Entertainment, the makers of the Ratchet and Clank movie. When this movie will get released, probably not in 2017, instead sometime after 2017. The Sly Cooper Movie is based on the first game from 2002 (Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus). The Plot synopsis: “Sly Cooper is a kinetic and comedic heist film that tells the story of Sly Cooper, an orphaned raccoon thief, and the adventures of his childhood friends and partners in crime, Bentley Turtle and Murray Hippo. In the film, Sly learns that he comes from a long line of talented, international thieves, and is catapulted into a global adventure. Sly races to reassemble pieces of an ancient book holding the Cooper clan’s family secrets before it can fall into the hands of Clockwerk; an evil metallic owl bent on ending the Cooper family line. From romantic Parisian backdrops to the lush mountains of China, gritty film noir meets bright, colorful graphic novels in this origin story of the world’s greatest thief-turned-hero.”

The characters in the film are; Sly Cooper, Bentley, Murray, Carmelita Fox and Clockwerk. More characters (especially other villains) are confirmed to be a part of the film, but neither the characters nor their cast have been announced. Also the voice cast isn’t final, even the voices in the teaser trailer aren’t final. The director of the Ratchet and Clank Movie (Kevin Munroe), as of Oct. 26, 2016 said he hadn’t personally worked on Sly Cooper in over a year and a half. Also due to Ratchet and Clank’s box office performance, Rainmaker Entertainment would have to reevaluate the timing, release plans and budget for Sly Cooper. Instead of using the cel-shading (which is the art style the series in known for), the film will instead use contemporary CG, because “the global film market can lean towards pure CG animated films. As much as we love the cel-shaded look of the game, we felt that it would not be held up in the big screen collectively.” The creators of the Sly Cooper franchise, Sucker Punch Productions and Sony are both involved in the making of Sly Cooper. Rainmaker Entertainment is also working on a Jak and Daxter Movie (hinted in Ratchet and Clank Movie), which would release sometime after Sly Cooper. Another reason for delay could be an absence of companies to make a game to be released alongside the movie. There are two companies that could make a Sly Cooper Movie game or Sly 5; Sanzaru Games and Sucker Punch Productions (Creators of Sly Cooper). Sanzaru Games said the decision to make a new Sly would be up to Sony. Sucker Punch Productions on the other hand hasn’t released a game since 2014 and not only that, they also keep releasing teasers through Twitter Tweets with Sly Cooper references. Which is what happened with Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time, even though the game was being developed by Sanzaru Games, Sucker Punch had Sly Cooper teasers in their Infamous games and an unlockable teaser for Sly 4 (which released in early 2013) in the Sly Collection for PS3 in 2010. So as to when the movie will release, what characters and their voice cast will be, only time will tell and we could see possible updates at E3 2017 in June and Playstation Experience 2017 in December.
