At the SXSW 2017 Gotta Go Fast: The Official Panel Of Sonic The Hedgehog, Sega had lots of announcements in store for both Project Sonic 2017( now called Sonic Forces) and Sonic Mania.
Sonic Forces: Sega revealed the title of the game along with a short gameplay video of Modern Sonic racing through a city under attack from Dr. Eggman’s Death Egg Robot Sentinels. The game is described to be an evolution of Sonic: Colors and Sonic: Generations and runs on a new and improved version of the gameplay engine used in previous Sonic games known as Hedgehog Engine 2. Wisps and Red Star Rings return in this game as well as Amy, Knuckles, Tails and some members of The Chaotix however, these characters are non-playable. Modern Sonic also has a reworked boost from Sonic: Unleashed and Sonic: Generations. There are 3 main gameplay modes 3D Modern Sonic Stages, 2D Classic Sonic Stages and an unknown character and gameplay component.

Sega also released the Main Theme in instrumental form, a link below picture. And as to the games plot the synopsis is “The key themes of the plot for Sonic Forces are “forces” and “power”. This time around, the unthinkable has happened: Sonic has failed and the world has been conquered by Dr. Eggman and his Eggman Empire. Now, it all comes down to a battle between the forces of good and the forces of evil over the control of the world, with Sonic and his friends on one side, and Eggman and his evil army on the other.” However it is still unknown how Sonic failed and Eggman won but this will be announced in the coming months, Sonic Forces launches on PS4, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch Holiday 2017. Sega also announced that Sonic Mania has been delayed to Summer 2017. They also released more gameplay, this time from the Flying Battery Zone.
